An update on Dún Laoghaire Ógra's activities over the past year seems an appropriate way to celebrate, the one-year anniversary of our Newsletter. Between "The Republican's Party", the Fianna Fáil Árd Fheis, having our Honorary Secretary, Cormac Devlin elected to the National Youth Committee, canvassing for our two candidates, a recruitment campaign and our "Annual Table Quiz", to name but a few of our adventures, Dún Laoghaire Ógra have indeed been keeping themselves busy as usual!! An evening of entertainment combined with a recruitment drive, took place on Friday the 24th August, in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dún Laoghaire. The aptly named "Republican's Party" was hugely successful in adding to our aspiring ranks, and helping to ensure that Ógra Fianna Fáil remains the largest political youth organisation in this country. A great time was indeed had by all and, many congratulations to those responsible for its organisation. City West Hotel, the venue for Fianna Fáil's 65th annual Árd Fheis celebrating 75 years of Fianna Fáil, was also bombarded by Dún Laoghaire Ógra members, on the 12th and 13th of October. The Árd Fheis was opened on the Friday evening by An Taoiseach and the workshops on Public Enterprise and Education & Science were held. Another series of workshops on the environment, health, defence and organisation to name but a few continued on the Saturday, while motions were passed determining Fianna Fáil's policies for the year ahead. The highlight of most delegates weekend was undoubtedly An Taoiseach's speech on Saturday evening, which in my personal view, and I'm sure that many others will agree, was his best and most comprehensive speech yet, encompassing all of the most challenging issues facing our nation today! Dún Laoghaire Ógra's Annual Table Quiz took place on the 17th October in the Rochestown Lodge Hotel and was once again a roaring success. Pat Whelan (CDC Vice-Chairman) was this years quiz master and attendance at the quiz was superb. The Séan Lemass memorial in Norwood, Ballybrack (his birth place) in July 2001, which Dún Laoghaire Ógra members organised, will once again be commemorated shortly with a mass. Many thanks to all those who have helped us over the past year and we hope for your continued support in the future. As we approach a General Election, Dún Laoghaire Ógra intends to remain as active as ever. Another recruitment drive and further development of our very successful web site are high on our agenda, these together with our Newsletter and weekly canvassing will immensely contribute to us retaking our two Dáil seats. - Jennifer Allen, 3rd Level Representative Dún Laoghaire Ógra
